A Few Helpful Lawn Tips

Have you ever wondered what it takes to have a green lawn? It may not be as difficult as you think. There are generally three main things you’ll want to pay attention to when trying to get a nice green lawn.

The first thing is knowing exactly what your soil needs. Find a local lawn and garden service or center that offers soil sample analysis. The process is simple: you take them a sample of your soil and they tell you what nutrients your soil needs. Then you can adjust your fertilizer regiment accordingly. Most local lawn and garden centers can get you started on the correct fertilizer regimen for your lawn.

SprinklerNext you want to be sure your lawn is getting the correct amount of water. Generally 1 inch a week is the optimal amount of H20 for your lawn. Obviously this can be hard to control with the weather, but if you can water your lawn as needed to keep close to 1 inch a week. Another trick I use is Miracle-Gro lawn food when watering. This has had great results for me in getting a green and healthy lawn.

Thirdly is simply making sure you have sharp lawn mower blades. Sharp blades insure that the cut grass is not damaged and therefore remains healthier. Its quite simple really.

A little trick I learned a few years ago was the amazing piece of equipment called a lawn sweeper. I purchased a push lawn sweeper two years ago and can’t believe I ever lived without one. If you hate raking leaves like me, you’ll love the lawn sweeper. So how does a lawn sweeper help keep your lawn green? Well, it actually helps keep it clear of leaves and debris that ultimately block out the sun. You might not think it matters much, but leaves sitting on your lawn for extended periods of time do rob your grass of valuable sunlight. Surely you’ve noticed how dead grass looks that’s been shut out from the sun under a pile of leaves. Lawn sweepers are a great way to clear your lawn of debris without breaking your back in the process.
